Andy is a disabled paddler who routinely paddles on Rutland Water with Rutland Canoe Club (RCC).
Following retirement Andy has looked to remain physically active and took up Kayaking, with an initial goal of Kayaking on the sea. He was welcomed as Rutland Canoe Club as their first disabled paddler and since then has paddled regularly. In 2014 Andy realised his first goal to paddle on the sea at a favourite haunt near Oban partially circling the Isle of Lismore accompanied by Rowland Woollven. Since then Andy has been out on the sea at Flamborough Head and the Mawddach Estuary. Andy also hand cycles, rows, plays the Banjo and is an erstwhile apprentice woodworker.
Andy was a keen sportsman in his younger days, captain of the school rugby and basketball teams, he played both rugby and basketball for the University, was captain of the university basketball team and represented Walsall Schools, Welsh Universities and Grampian Region at basketball.
Andy this year has made 5 Carbon Fibre Greenland paddles for himself and RCC colleagues and will use one of these as they offer a more efficient transfer of power over longer distances and have proven less wearing on shoulder and wrist joints
